A Saudi man and his three children were stuck in a wadi when floodwater surprised the driver. Wadis are dangerous because rainwater from a distance can accumulate in smaller wadis and rapidly build into a force.

Local Civil Defense spokesman Col. Muhammad Al-Asmi told Arab News the driver was stuck in the valley around 7 p.m. Locals attempted to rescue the father and the three children, but one of the boys was washed away. They found the body 2.5 km away from the rescue point after about five hours.

Civil Defense took the opportunity to warn people about crossing wadis when there is precipitation present or even in the distance, especially at night.
