“It’s a great honor to be confirmed as the Philippine ambassador to Saudi Arabia, which is a premier post,” Tago told Arab News from Sana’a, Yemen, on Tuesday where he’s coordinating the evacuation of Filipinos in the wake of unrest in that country. He is also accredited to Yemen.

Tago was one of 22 new ambassadors confirmed, along with 39 new foreign service officers (FSOs). Tago’s confirmation to be the Philippine ambassador to Saudi Arabia is noteworthy, considering that he’s rather new at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), having joined it only in 1995.

He is a career Foreign Service Officer with the rank of Career Minister. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree from the University of California at Davis in 1994. Earlier in 1988, he finished his secondary education at the Philippine International School in Jeddah, the predecessor of the International Philippine School in Jeddah.

He started his diplomatic career as Third Secretary and Vice Consul at the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh in the late 1990s.

His late father was also a diplomat. He is the brother of the former Miss Philippines Reham Tago.
