The groom appeared to have no apparent reason for the violent act, other than what female preacher Iman Shahhat described as the evil eye. The newspaper said while all the guests were anticipating a romantic night, the groom suddenly without any warning pushed his bride out of her chair. His mother hurried to him to ask why he was behaving weirdly, but he began crying hysterically.

Shahat said the evil eye had struck the groom because of the excessive extravagance.
