- Hardy has signed a three-year extension with the Baltimore Orioles, who were happy to make a long-term commitment to a player who has contributed heavily at the plate, in the field and in the clubhouse.
In announcing the deal Monday, Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail said Hardy has “done a terrific job for us in every facet of the game.”
Hardy was batting .278 through the weekend and led all major league shortstops with a .994 fielding percentage.
The deal comes with a partial no-trade clause and assures Hardy that he won’t be dealt this season. Then again, it seems the Orioles have no desire to part with him anyway.
MacPhail said, “We’re delighted to call him a Baltimore Oriole for three more seasons.”
