The world and Olympic champion will run the 100 at the Diamond League meeting in Monaco on Friday, his last race over the distance before the Aug 27-Sept. 4 worlds in Daegu, South Korea.

“Given my injury and my back problems, I was a little behind (in my preparations). Since then, I have tried...to take my time to get back to my best level,” the Jamaican told a news conference on Thursday before denying he could break his record this year.

“Certainly, everyone is waiting for me. But I will apply myself to win the world championships. The important thing in a career is to win major championships. The clock does not matter.”
