Oil and gas companies’ spending has picked up far quicker in North America than the rest of the world this year, as crude prices topped $100 per barrel.

Schlumberger’s quarterly profit rose to $1.34 billion, or 98 cents a share, from $818 million, or 68 cents a share, a year ago.

Leaving out one-time items, it earned 87 cents a share from continuing operations.

Revenue rose 62 percent to $9.62 billion.
