- UNCASVILLE, Connecticut: The Connecticut Sun have waived veteran forward DeMya Walker.
The 6-foot-3 Walker averaged 2.4 points while appearing in 10 of the Sun’s 14 games this season. Selected with the third pick in the Sacramento Monarchs’ dispersal draft after the 2009 season, Walker averaged 4.1 points in 31 games last year.
“It was a mutual parting of the ways,” Sun coach Mike Thibault said. “She wanted to go some place where she had an opportunity to play more. We obviously were going in a different direction with our roster. ... This gives us a chance to bring in a young post to develop for the future.”
The Sun — second in the Eastern Conference, one-half game behind Indiana, are expected to sign a replacement before the team reconvenes Monday after the All-Star break.
