The campaign encourages drivers to cooperate with the traffic police to report cases of speeding and other traffic violations, said First Lt. Nawaf Al-Bouq, spokesman for Jeddah police.

Accidents in the Kingdom spike during Ramadan when drivers openly flaunt traffic rules in order to get home in time to break their fasts.

Al-Bouq pointed out the role of media in raising awareness among the public. “The media has shown efforts to support the campaign by bringing the public and traffic security together to spread awareness and develop a positive behavior,” he said.

The campaign makes use of the Internet by sending electronic brochures to the e-mails of citizens who are registered in the police database. In addition, police are distributing brochures and coloring books to children at traffic lights and police departments all over Jeddah.

“We want to spread awareness as much and fast as possible to everyone living in Jeddah, especially with Ramadan coming soon and knowing that the traffic will be crazy during the holy month,” said Al-Bouq.
