- ISLAMABAD: Newly elected members of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elected Chaudhry Abdul Majeed as new prime minister in Muzaffarabad on Tuesday.
Majeed got 35 votes while Raja Farooq Haider Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) managed only 11 votes. Muslim Conference and Muttahida Qaumi Movement legislators also voted for Majeed.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah congratulated Majeed after his victory.
