It asked all drivers to strictly observe traffic rules and regulations, not to run red lights or speed, especially before iftar (breaking of the fast) when people rush to their homes.

Acting Director of Traffic Brig. Hamid bin Muhammad Al-Raqib said under the new plan many roads will be made into single passes going in one direction.

“There will be sufficient traffic police to ensure smooth flow of vehicles. Big trucks will not be allowed to pass during peak hours,” he said.

Al-Raqib said the directorate has deployed all its human and material resources to cover the entire city to ensure the traffic flow is smooth and organized.

He said the traffic police would be present at all places that are usually congested, including the vegetable markets.

The acting director said there would be patrols to control traffic from iftar until the Taraweeh prayer.

He said all mosques would be monitored by traffic police to make sure that worshippers do not park their cars incorrectly.

He said the traffic team at King Abdulaziz International Airport has been reinforced with extra hands.

The highways leading to Makkah, including the Jeddah-Makkah-Madinah Expressway, will be monitored around the clock by radar, he added.

Al-Raqib also said the Corniche would be covered by undercover traffic police, particularly in the early hours of the morning to root out violations including joyriding.
