The incident happened after several team members broke a 10 p.m. curfew that had been imposed after a previous incident in June in which team members reportedly clashed with police, Xinhua News Agency said.

Xinhua said Wednesday’s incident in the eastern coastal city of Qingdao, where the team was training, involved several squad members.

Wang accidentally cut her hands on glass during the incident and the 26-year-old went to hospital where she had “dozens” of stitches, Xinhua said.

Wang is China’s most decorated Winter Olympic athlete, after winning three golds at the Vancouver Games last year, and one gold, a silver and a bronze at Turin in 2006.

Following the incident, the team’s two-month summer training camp was cut short and the team returned to Beijing.

The General Administration of Sport of China is investigating the matter, Xinhua said. The person dealing with the matter at the organization was not immediately available to speak to The Associated Press on Thursday.
