- SERANG, Indonesia: An Indonesian court has sentenced three Muslims to up to six months in jail for involvement in a fatal attack against followers of a minority Islamic sect.
Critics said Thursday the sentence was much too lenient.
Hundreds of people stormed a house being used by members of the Ahmadiyah sect — considered deviant by many Muslims because they believe that Muhammad was not the final prophet. The machete-wielding mob killed three men and badly wounded six others in the February attack.
The Serang District court in Banten province found three of the suspects — Adam Damini, Idris bin Mahdani, Dani bin Misra — guilty of either illegal possession of weapons or violent action that led to deaths.
They got three to six months in jail.
