Agency spokesman Erik Vasys said Thursday that firearms and “items that could be identified as bomb-making components, including gunpowder” were removed from Pfc. Naser Abdo’s motel room in Killeen, near the Fort Hood base.

Vasys says the FBI will charge Abdo with possessing bomb-making components. He’s in police custody.

The 21-year-old Muslim infantry soldier, who was assigned to a base in Kentucky, had been granted conscientious objector status earlier this year after he said his religious beliefs would prevent him from fighting in any war.

The discharge was delayed after Abdo was charged with possessing child pornography.

An Oklahoma attorney who represented Abdo says he hasn’t heard from Abdo in weeks. He’s been absent from duty since early July.

Fort Hood was also the site of a deadly 2009 shooting rampage in which an Army pyschiatrist has been charged.
