- BAGHDAD: Iraq’s oil exports dipped to 2.164 million barrels per day (bpd) in July from 2.275 million bpd in June as more crude was used to meet growing local demand for fuel because of hot weather, a top oil official said.
“The reason for the decline is growing domestic demand for fuel so we have increased the supplies to the country’s refineries,” Falah Alamri, head of SOMO, the State Oil Marketing Organization, said.
In Iraq, summer temperatures soar to 50 degrees Celsuis, pushing up fuel demand.
Iraq is pushing to ramp up its oil production after years of war and sanctions battered the industry. It expects output to reach three million bpd by the end of this year.
