- WHITNEY POINT, New York: A tour bus mainly carrying Polish tourists was going too fast during a downpour when it crashed and flipped over on an upstate New York highway, leaving 30 people with minor injuries, police said.
State police Capt. Eric Janis said Thursday that 19 people were treated at three Binghamton-area hospitals after the Wednesday night accident. He said police were trying to confirm that all the injured had been released.
They included a woman who was trapped underneath the bus and was dug out by emergency crews.
State Police Sgt. Todd Burdick told the Press and Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton that heavy rain and speed too fast for the conditions caused the accident.
The crash was on a rural stretch of Interstate 81 near Whitney Point, about 15 miles (24 kilometers) north of Binghamton. Burdick says the bus was traveling from Niagara Falls to Trenton, New Jersey.
