- JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday launched four new sports channels through Arabsat, bringing the total number of sports channels in the country to six.
- Culture and Information Minister Abdul Aziz Khoja said the new channels would enable Saudi Television to telecast live major football events in the country.
He also announced Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah had approved a proposal for Saudi Television to telecast league football matches for three years. The ministry has selected Sports Expert Company to cover Group 1 league matches scheduled to start after Ramadan.
Meanwhile, the Holy Qur’an Channel has started transmitting translation of the Qur’an in English and French along with the Qur’an recitations of 10 famous qaris (those who recite the Qur’an).
