- ALGIERS: A suicide bomber has crashed his small truck apparently laden with explosives into a police station in the capital of the Kabylie region east of Algiers, injuring at least 29 people.
Local police officials say eight officers were injured in the attack on the station in Tizi Ouzou at 4 a.m. Sunday, while the other victims were from surrounding buildings that were also heavily damaged.
A doctor living nearby, Alliche Brahim, said the blast awoke everyone in the mountain-ringed town, located some 100 kilometers east of Algiers.
The Kabylie region is the stronghold of Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
