In his speech following the flag hoisting ceremony, Ahmad announced that he was leaving the Kingdom in early September on completion of his tour of duty.

He took the opportunity to thank government officials, expatriates, embassy officials and well-wishers of India who extended their fullest cooperation to make his tenure an eventful period in the Kingdom.

He also said that there are ample job opportunities for professionals in India. He predicted that Asia would play a predominant role in the 21st century and India would be a leader.

A colorful ceremony was also held on the premises of the Consulate General of India. Consul General Faiz Ahmad Kidwai hoisted the flag and read out the president's address to the nation. Children from the International Indian School, Jeddah, sang patriotic songs and enchanted the large gathering of Indian nationals.

In Dammam, the flag hoisting ceremony took place at the International Indian School (Boys Section) early Monday morning. IISD Managing Committee Chairman John Thomas unfurled the tricolor. The flag hoisting was followed by the reading of Indian President Pratibha Patil’s message.

Schoolchildren sang patriotic songs much to the delight of those present. Members of the Indian community in the Eastern Province attended the ceremony. They included Registrar Gangesh Tiwari and committee members Dr. Shamshad Ahmed and Asghar Khan, and journalist P.A.M. Haris.
