The center is one of the 10 key points presented by a ministerial committee to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to find a drastic solution for Jeddah's recurrent flash floods.

Prince Khaled said the center would be established in a 450 sq. m. area inside the governorate premises and will be completed in 152 days. "The center will play a big role in the management of crises and catastrophes in the region," the governor said.

He said the Jeddah crisis center would have advanced equipment and facilities, matching with similar international centers. "About 25 military and civilian agencies would be linked with the center."

Ahmed Al-Suleim, director general of Jeddah flood project, said the center would contact concerned departments immediately to deal with crises and control them quickly and efficiently.

"The center will have the ability to receive live transmissions from four helicopters at a time," Al-Suleim said. About 42 existing cameras in different parts of the city will be linked with the center. The project includes installation of 150 new cameras.
