A statement posted Thursday on Al-Qaeda affiliated militant websites said Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb targeted the police station in the city of Tizi Ouzou on Sunday.

Algeria’s official APS news agency had reported that a suicide bomber crashed a small truck into the police station, and that 15 officers and 14 civilians were injured. Nearby buildings saw doors ripped off and windows broken.

Algeria has seen a wave of scattered attacks in the past several weeks.

Tizi Ouzou is the capital of the Kabylie region, an AQIM stronghold.
