Both presidency and media section of the MQM remained silent over the development.

The MQM’s decision came at the time when the country’s commercial capital Karachi has plunged into an unending violence and chaos.

The MQM had parted ways with the government over restoration of commissionerate system in Sindh, and controversial elections in Azad Kashmir.

The party quit the ruling coalition at least three times now, though the most recent spat with the ruling party appeared to be the most severe and certainly the longest that the MQM has spent on the opposition benches since the February 2008 elections.

Earlier, the MQM also decided to join the PPP-led coalition at both the national and provincial levels after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani called Altaf Hussain to invite the party back into the ruling coalition.

The MQM held three ministries at Federal level while its representation in Sindh government was sizable.

In Sindh PPP is single largest party and needs no support from other parties. It was Co-Chairman of the PPP who had persuaded the MQM and Awami National Part (ANP).

After crucial parlays between the MQM and the PPP leadership it was agreed to restore Local Governments’ system in entire Sindh.

The decision, being termed as the “first phase” of an agreement, came following long negotiations between the MQM, represented by Ibad, and the Pakistan Peoples Party, represented by Sen. Babar Awan.
