- AMMAN: The head of Jordan’s largest opposition group says the likely fall of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi is a lesson for the rulers of Syria and Yemen.
Muslim Brotherhood leader Hammam Saeed says Arabs should celebrate Qaddafi’s ouster because it paves the way for democracy in the north African nation.
Saeed said Monday that Qaddafi is a “tyrant who used unjustified force against his people, just like the Yemeni and Syrian presidents, who should draw lessons that their end is near and would be similar.”
Syria’s Bashar Assad and Yemen’s Ali Abdullah Saleh both face mass uprisings against their regimes.
Libyan rebels pushed into Tripoli on Sunday without meeting much resistance. Qaddafi’s whereabouts remain unknown.
