The residents of Dale Farm are Irish Travelers — similar but ethnically distinct from Gypsies, also known as Roma. Some of the Travelers had lived legally at the site for decades. But local authorities said new arrivals who came in 2001 did not have the right permits to live there.

After lengthy legal battles, a British court said last month that most of the 100 families living there had to leave within 28 days.

Redgrave will visit the site Tuesday. The residents are due to be evicted Wednesday.
