- JEDDAH: Saudi actress Mariam Al-Ghamdi told Al-Watan newspaper on Wednesday that she was the first Saudi woman to own an establishment for the production of drama, radio and TV programs and theatrical works.
“I love to write and direct since my early childhood. I wrote a play when I was only 12 years old,” she said, adding, that she has written, produced and directed a play, exclusively for females, which is currently being shown at Dar Al-Olaya girl school. She said the play is called “The Miserly and the Failure” and is a comedy that discusses a number of social issues. She said actress Laila Al-Samman was playing the leading role along with other gifted young Saudi actresses. She said the play is about a female Saudi wedding singer (Taqtaqa) who is also doing three other jobs, and her experiences in life provide for many comical interludes.
