An unknown driver volunteered to take a bleeding Raiz to hospital while Al-Qibli was waiting for the traffic police to arrive at the scene but has since disappeared with the child, the Arabic daily Al-Madinah reported on Tuesday.

While Al-Qibli was driving in Al-Sahman district of Madinah on Sunday, a green sedan without number plates hit him from behind.  The father said the sedan drove away, and his son was bleeding from a small injury.

"While I was trying to call the traffic police, a man approached me and offered to take my son to the nearest hospital. I readily agreed, not knowing that this was the last time I would see either of them," he said.

Al-Qibli said it took the traffic police more than two hours to arrive at the scene of the accident. It also took him another five hours to finish the procedures at the traffic police station.

On completing the procedures, Al-Qibli said, he went to the police station in the central area around the Prophet's Mosque to report the loss of his son, but they were not ready to listen to him. He added that the police there informed him that they were not the concerned station, as the accident had happened in an area not under their jurisdiction.

Al-Qibli received the same reply from the police station in Uhud district.

"I spent a long time going from one police station to another without any of them willing to listen to me. About 24 hours have passed since the accident, and I do not know the whereabouts of my son," he said.

Al-Qibli appealed to the unknown driver who took his son to bring him back, as he and the child's mother were in a very tragic situation.

Commenting on the case, director of Madinah police Maj. Gen. Saud Al-Ahmadi promised to investigate the police stations’ refusal to heed the father's complaint.
