Officers said the driver fled the accident site after altering the appearance of the truck in order to avoid detection.

The accident occurred Sunday on Aqul Road when a truck hit a car driven by a 13-year-old Saudi boy. The victim died instantly.

Police detectives said they tracked down the vehicle involved in the accident, although its exterior was changed overnight.

The discovery of shards of broken glass, believed to be from the victim’s car, led to the arrest of the driver and the sponsor.

The driver confessed to the charges against him, which included altering the appearance of the vehicle without permission from the traffic authorities.

The man allegedly changed the car’s appearance at a workshop owned by his sponsor.

Madinah police have set up a special unit to track down traffic violators who try to avoid detection as the number of hit-and-runs is increasing in the city.
