His album, “New Blood,” marked the beginning of his career in the world of music. The self-produced album gives a deep insight into what this talented artist has to offer. The haunting lyrics and melody of “Fuzzy Colors” is a song that directly implicates his forthright attitude of life. With songs that take on Lebanese politics with a headstrong air, Jay Wud mixes darbouka and riffling guitar beats with “Burning Daze” and back to the fundamentals of rock in “Super Woman.”

He is a big fan of comic books, art and photography and declares that rock was not a genre he chose; it was “built in.” Music has always transcended borders and created rock idols in every sphere. In this interview, Arab News introduces you to rock prodigy Jay Wud.
 

I play both electric and acoustic. I picked up the guitar at the age of 13 after being influenced by the music I heard and friends that were playing this instrument for fun. I found it magical; I found myself with it.
 

Yes, I am the singer on my album.
 

I listen to blues, classical, funk, pop, jazz and fusion. But, there’s something that’s beyond me that relates to rock music.
 

In late 2009, I started writing, and at that time, I was between working in a studio in music production and performing regular gigs at night with a cover band. The more I wrote in the course of time, the more I wanted to quit being in a cover band and focus on my music. In early 2010, I quit the cover band and started my mission.
 

I was brought up listening to Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin to name a few. Over time, the list of artists in my library started growing from genre to genre by sharing music with friends, and that kept me feeding on new music constantly.
 

“Super Woman,” the seventh track on “New Blood” talks about a very special woman in my life, and people love it the most! It’s all about rock ‘n’ roll I guess.
 

A wild drummer beating on mountains, a groovy bass player rumbling the very ground you walk on, a super guitarist with a thunder bolt made from the finest guitars to rock your heart out and a magical voice to knock you down or take you above and beyond.
 

I don’t have a favorite song because every track has something to offer.
 

I don’t think it’s a stigma but rather difference in culture and taste.
 

I get to be my own boss and have total creative freedom because I’m an independent artist not signed to a record label. In other words, I’m my own label along with my manager and team.
 

The fan base is getting bigger and bigger. “New Blood” has been a great start.
