The queen was accompanied by a delegation of well-known Swedish personalities and Princess Adela bint Abdullah.

The queen’s tour aimed to help her learn more about Saudi Arabia and the achievements of the traditional handcrafts industry.

During Queen Silvia’s visit at DAH, she addressed more than 1,000 students and spoke of her gratitude and excitement at visiting Saudi Arabia for the first time.

The queen later visited Sleysla and met with Princess Fahda bint Saud, president of Al-Faisaliyah Women's Welfare Organization.

The princess said Sleysla is always welcoming visitors from all over the world because the center is a place where they can learn everything they need to know about Saudi costumes and culture.

“This time we tried as much as we could to exhibit modern Saudi handicrafts that is made by women from Al-Faisaliyah Women’s Welfare Organization. We wanted to hit two birds with one stone; we wanted to show the work of those women and we wanted to introduce the queen to our culture through the exhibition and presentation,” she added.

Amal Al-Jebreen, board member and PR manager at Sleysla, said the organization had to conduct much research about the nature of the queen’s visit to the Kingdom.

“We found out that she was going to visit an educational institute, medical institute and other local places that would help her learn about Saudi Arabia,” she said. “We realized that she was very much interested in welfare societies and charity organizations and she herself is chairwoman of 2,500 communities in Sweden, which is why Princess Adela chose Al-Faisaliyah for her to visit and see.”

Queen Silvia and her husband King Carl XVI Gustaf are on a visit to the Kingdom to take part in Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah’s Messengers of Peace initiative that is connected to the world scouts.
