A heavy turnout of visitors gathered on the banks of the lakes at Wadi Hanifa to celebrate the Saudi National Day holiday, according to a statement issued by the Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA).

The parks in the valley were very attractive but what stood out was the stone bridge. Families had to come early to find a suitable place near the 10,000-sq. meter lake, the ADA statement said.

Some of the visitors said they had the impression that the place was exotic and expressed appreciation for the services rendered with regard to recreation and the environment, including the availability of parking lots, pedestrian lanes and barbecue stands.

"This is my family’s first visit and I had not expected to find a natural and recreational place like this in Riyadh. It is quite different from similar recreational places. It is far from buildings and crowds," a Saudi visitor said.

Wadi Hanifa has six open parks ready to welcome holidaymakers and provides services to families who want to relax there.

"Aside from being there to celebrate the country's National Day, it is also a good bonding time for family members," another visitor said.
