- JEDDAH: Police in Jeddah are questioning a shop clerk who allegedly falsely accused a woman in her 50s of stealing a gold bracelet worth SR18,000 from a store in Balad.
The Balad police station received a complaint from the clerk about the alleged theft. "The clerk told police that he suspected a woman client of tricking him by switching a fake gold bracelet with the real one before exiting the store,” said Jeddah police spokesman Brig. Misfer Al-Juaid.
“The clerk provided investigators with the woman's description and possible whereabouts. Police carried out an intensive search and arrested the woman,” said Al-Juaid.
On questioning, the woman denied the accusations. She was released after police failed to find the stolen item in her personal belongings. The clerk is currently being questioned on suspicion of making a false claim to the police, said Al-Juaid.
