Deputy Foreign Minister Prince Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah, a board member of King Abdulaziz Public Library, will officiate the ceremony.

Faisal bin Muammar, supervisor of the library, emphasized the prize's role in promoting cultural exchange and scientific and intellectual cooperation between countries and people around the world.

"The prize has won international recognition thanks to the name and fame of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah," he said, adding that the prize would contribute to promoting the translation of important works in different languages.

He said the prize committee had received 96 submissions in five categories and picked the winners after reviewing the works’ quality. This year’s award for institutions has been won by the Arabic Organization for Translation in Lebanon.

The award for translation in natural sciences from other languages to Arabic is shared by Muhammad Alzughaibi (for his translation of Linda Costanzo's physiology from English to Arabic), Abdullah Alghasham and Yusuf Barakat (for their translation of Martin Eastwood's Principles of Human Nutrition). George Zeenati (for his translation of Paul Ricoueur's Memoire, L'histoire, et L'oublie [Memory, History, Forgetting]) and Muhammad Badawi (for his translation of Clifford Geertz's The Interpretation of Cultures) will share the prize for translation in humanities from other languages to Arabic.

The award in the field of translating humanities from Arabic to other languages is shared by Franz Chop (for his translation of Averroes' Fasl al-Maqal [Legality of Philosophical Investigation Under Islamic Law] into German) and Yolanda Joradi and Hussein Bin Sheenah for their translation of Ahmed Almuradi's Kitab-Ulasrar (Book of Secrets).

During the Beijing event, Chinese translator Chong Jee Kong and Muhammad Enani, an Egyptian who holds a Ph.D. in English, will be honored for their contributions to translation. The jury has withheld the award for translation in natural sciences from Arabic to other languages due to absence of applicants.

Bin Muammar emphasized King Abdullah's desire to promote cultural dialogue and understanding between people of different cultures and faiths. "King Abdullah has called for promoting moderation and rejecting the call for clash of civilizations," he said. He commended China for hosting the prize distribution ceremony.

Chinese Ambassador to the Kingdom Yang Honglin expressed his country's happiness at hosting the event. “It comes in line with the growing economic, political and cultural relations between the two countries,” he said, underscoring the contributions made by Islamic and Chinese cultures to the human civilization.

The ambassador welcomed the decision to honor Chong Jee Kong, who holds a Ph.D. in Arabic language and literature and worked as chairperson of the Arabic literature Research Committee in China. He also worked as an adviser to Foreign Literature Journal and produced more than 80 works, including translations.
