- MAKKAH: Efforts to tackle dengue fever in Makkah, which has been ongoing throughout the year, will intensify during the Haj season, spokesman of the services department at the Makkah municipality Suhail Melibari announced Sunday.
He said more than 200 workers and technicians will be working around the clock to spray disinfectants at public places and pilgrims’ accommodations.
“We will expand our dengue-fighting efforts during Haj to the holy sites of Mina, Muzdalifah and Arafat,” he added.
Melibari said schools, mosques, houses and public places in Makkah would also be disinfected.
He said 221,324 possible locations for mosquitoes and 110,678 houses were sprayed during the past 10 months as part of efforts to tackle dengue fever.
Melibari revealed that through cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture’s Makkah branch, aircraft would be used to spray sewage canals in the eastern and southern parts of Makkah.
“Aircraft will also be used to spray insecticides at the pilgrims' tents in the holy sites,” Melibari added.
