- RIYADH: English-language local channel Saudi TV Channel 2 has introduced an array of new programs covering various aspects of Saudi cultural and social life to mark the new Hijrah year that happened on Saturday.
- Seven new programs have been added this year.
“Our main emphasis has now shifted to catering to the needs of the younger Saudi generation,” said Sulieman Abdulrazzaq Al-Hamoud, director general of the channel.
He added the new programs, including “The Future Generation,” “I Have a Problem,” “Kid’s World” and “Our Students Abroad,” will tackle the youth’s role in society and help them combat the challenges they encounter.
“(Our Students Abroad) will endeavor to highlight the life and achievements of Saudi students who are studying in universities abroad on the King Abdullah scholarship program,” Al-Hamoud said.
He added Channel 2 would not only concentrate on the younger generation and that a series of new programs on fine arts and photography have been introduced.
Al-Hamoud said the channel would continue to air programs that received a positive audience response last year.
He said despite the stiff competition from several international channels, KSA2 had managed to maintain its popularity.
“Our audience comes from both the Saudi and expatriate communities, and as English increases in importance at the primary school level here, our viewership is bound to multiply.”
