On YouTube, hundreds of thousands of videos and documentaries about the Kingdom are voluntarily uploaded. They are widely viewed and generate a number of comments from viewers. An old video shot in 1945 shows King Abdul Aziz meeting with American President Franklin D. Roosevelt on board the US Navy ship Quincy and talking to him through a translator.

“This is an amazing footage. I always heard about the Saudi-American bilateral relationship and this meeting, but I never thought I would get the chance to see it,” one viewer posted on YouTube.

Hundreds of videos on the holy city of Makkah and Haj are uploaded on YouTube, some dating as far back to the early 1940s. These video contributors mention on their channels that they had found those videos saved on old tapes or recorded from television programs.

“I found this tape in my father’s collection, and I figured out how to digitize it and share it with everyone on the web. I hope everyone enjoys,” One video creator mentioned on his page.

Several YouTube members posted and shared the “King Abdul Aziz and the Great Powers” documentary that aired on Alarabiya TV channel. “Thanks to the uploader. I wanted to watch this documentary, but I missed it. There are hardly any good documentaries in Arabic about our country. I wished it was also in other foreign languages to show it to my friends here in the US,” one commented.

A British documentary filmed during the time of King Faisal showed several aspects of Saudi lives, including interviews with students at the time.

“I showed this video to my parents. I never knew how life was in the cities and how life looked like during the reign of King Faisal. Things looked much simpler back then,” one viewer commented.
