With the turn of the hour at countries around world, tweets seemed to be in harmony and in hundreds of languages. New Zealanders and Australians were the first to take to Twitter their New Year’s wishes, with several Twitter users from Sydney, among other cities of the continent, kept tweeting when the clock hit 12 midnight at their location.

“New Zealand and East Coast Australia: Happy New Year,” one tweeted. While another one posted, “Hey Australia & New Zealand, how does the future look?” In, and around the Middle East, Saudi tweeters were no exception. Several Saudis posted, commented on their prospects, and wrote positive outlooks, with the hope that 2012 would be better year for Saudis and the Kingdom.

“May this year 2012 be safer and peaceful for us all around the world,” one Saudi posted on Twitter.

“Wish everyone a good year filled with healthy and better times than the last,” tweeted another. An Egyptian posted, “We all wish 2012, be a year of freedom and justice for all of us Egyptians.”

Back on Jan. 6, 2011, Twitter reported through its blog that, “Just four seconds after midnight in Japan on Jan. 1,  Twitter users set an all-time record in the number of tweets sent per second (TPS).

At that moment, the world sent a staggering 6,939 TPS wishing friends and followers Happy New Year!” The company expected much bigger numbers for 2012, as more and more people are becoming familiar with the website. “On New Year’s Eve, we saw epic tweet activity around the world as people in each time zone inaugurated 2011,” Twitter posted on their blog.

Twitter blog mentioned the 2011 phenomenal numbers in tweets, were witnessed only during the World Cup of 2010.
