- RIYADH: Abdul Aziz bin Muhammad Al-Manqour, who has worked as Saudi cultural attaché in the United States from 1961 to 1977, will be honored during a ceremony at Riyadh InterContinental on Tuesday.
Abdul Rahman Al-Mazi, a member of the organizing committee, commended Al-Manqour’s contributions in facilitating studies of Saudi students in US universities including those who were studying at the expense of the state or at their own expense.
“He is a man of exemplary qualities,” Al-Mazi said about Al-Manqour. “He is known for his simplicity, humbleness, nobility and humanity,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that the Saudis who were sent abroad for higher education and training were small in number in 1960s and grown into thousands in 1970s before dwindling in the middle of 1980s.
More than 120,000 Saudi students are currently studying in various universities in the world under King Abdullah Foreign Scholarship Program.
