The project will cover an area of 590,000 square meters, said an official statement, adding that each house would cover an area of 500 square meters.

Al-Dhowaihi said the project would include educational, religious and recreational facilities in addition to public utility services. There will be two schools, two mosques, two parks and two playgrounds in the housing compound.

Each house will have two floors designed to meet the requirements of Saudi families, with four bedrooms, a sitting room for men, a dining room, a living room, a kitchen, four toilets and a room for servants.

The minister expressed his hope that the project would meet the hopes and aspirations of Saudi citizens to own a suitable home. “We are currently implementing 47 housing projects in various parts of the country,” he said. “We’ll call for tenders for the remaining projects soon.”

He thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah for his generous support for housing projects. King Abdullah has allocated SR250 billion to construct 500,000 homes in various parts of the country.
