The auction was organized by Sanad Society in cooperation with Coach’s agent in the Kingdom, Al-Moallim Jewelry.

The handbags auctioned carried the designs of Princess Hissa Al-Shaalan, wife of King Abdullah; Princess Adela bint Abdullah, chairperson of Sanad’s board of directors; Prince Badr bin Abdul Mohsen, a renowned poet, as well as of other designers and celebrities.

Two of the handbags were designed by two children of cancer patients of the 448 beneficiaries of the society’s services, among them 39 non-Saudis.

At the opening ceremony of the evening, Princess Adela bint Abdullah pointed out that the auction is one of 12 programs and activities Sanad holds to provide financial and moral support with the help of over 300 volunteers.

Al-Moallim Jewelry revealed that the auction was the first comprehensive philanthropic event organized by Coach in cooperation with Sanad.

The auction started with a bidding of up to SR75,000 to SR100,000 per bag, according to the designer’s name.

Apart from the SR1.45 million yielded by the sale of the 27 handbags, a total amount of SR200,000 was donated to the society, and more than SR50,000 was generated from the entrance tickets — all of which will be directed to Sanad.

The auction is part of the society’s efforts to activate corporate social responsibility as an international concept to support civil society activities and as a form of social solidarity Islam urges society to, in addition to Sanad’s mission to sustain its efforts in supporting and caring for children with cancer.
