Since he was appointed governor of Makkah region about five years ago, the prince has made it a custom to tour all the regions of his province every year.

According to the director of the department of studies and public relations at the governorate, Sultan Al-Dousari, the governor during his visit to Al-Jammoum will hold talks with dignitaries and heads of government departments in the region and a meeting with the members of the local council.

"The governor will listen to comprehensive reports on the execution of the ongoing development projects to find on the spot solution for any problem. He will also listen to the demands and requests of the residents," Al-Dousari said.

He added that directors of all government departments in the Makkah region will accompany the governor in his tour with the aim of opening direct dialogue with the residents.

"The previous visits of the governor have proved the usefulness of direct contacts between officials and citizens. Decisions will be taken on the spot to resolve all problems facing residents and to take immediate action on their demands and requests," he said.

Al-Dousari recalled that the governor's previous visit to Al-Jammoum region had resulted in the establishment of service and development projects worth more than SR750 million including, among others, the setting up of a branch of Umm Al-Qura University and the construction of the university college building on an area of 5,000 sq. meters within the student's campus which will be built on an area of four million sq. meters.

Students began studying computer, accountancy and mathematics in three colleges this academic year. The three colleges were housed in a rented building containing 63 classrooms that were furnished and equipped. When the building is completed, the colleges will also teach biology, chemistry and physics.

The area also witnessed the implementation of a number of health, drainage and sewage projects.

During his last visit to Al-Jammoum, Prince Khaled laid the foundation stone for the construction of buildings for the municipality, the social development center and a 100-bed general hospital that has operation theaters and nurseries. He also opened the building of the Civil Defense, the health center and the welfare-building complex consisting of 760 housing units in addition to flour mills.

Al-Jammoum is the northern gate of the holy city. It is 52 km from Makkah and 72 km from Jeddah. It has an area of 1,000 sq km and has a population of 45,000.
