Saudi Arabia has condemned in strongest terms the terror attacks that killed several people in Cairo on Friday.

An official statement said: ‘’These dastardly blasts target Egypt’s security ... It is a futile effort to break the nation by a criminal group that has no concern and which wants to hijack the people’s will and lay waste the country’s assets.”

The statement renewed Kingdom’s support to Egypt, saying that Saudi Arabia has full confidence in the ability of the Egyptian government and its people to deal with terror with a iron hand and to rein in these criminals who have nothing to do with the noble Islamic values.

The government expressed condolences to the families of the blast victims, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The bombings fueled the Egyptian government’s campaign to paint the Muslim Brotherhood as behind a wave of militant violence that has escalated since the military’s July 3 ouster of Muhammad Mursi and the subsequent crackdown on the Brotherhood.

A string of bombings hit police around Cairo, including a car blast that ripped through the city’s main police headquarters and wrecked a nearby museum of artifacts.

Five people were killed in the most significant attack yet in Cairo at a time of mounting confrontation between protesters and the government.

Soon after the blast at the security headquarters, a crowd gathered outside the building, chanting slogans against the Brotherhood and in support of army chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah El-Sissi, who military supporters now want to run for president.

“Execution for Mursi and his leaders,” one man shouted through a megaphone. A woman held up a picture depicting the Brotherhood as sheep, screaming, “Mursi is the butcher and El-Sissi will slaughter him.”

A witness who lives in an apartment about 200 meters away from the police building said he had been awakened by the explosion.

“My building shook,” Yahya Attiya said.
