Social and Educational Welfare Assistance (SEWA), a welfare organization comprised of a group of volunteers from the Indian Embassy, will organize a blood donation camp in Dammam to mark Saudi National Day.
SEWA, based in Dammam, is involved in community services. Since its inception over a year ago, it has been active in the fields of education and in helping accident victims and critically ill patients, in addition to supporting the transportation process of deceased expats to their home country.
“We wanted to celebrate Saudi National Day differently, so we decided to organize a blood donation camp. It will be held in Dammam on Sept. 23. The aim is to create awareness on the importance of donating blood among Saudis and expatriates,” said Serajuddin Khan, a SEWA volunteer.
He said, “We are guided by the Qur’anic teaching that says ‘... And whoever saves a life, it is as though he had saved the life of all mankind! ...’ (Al-Qur’an 5:32).”
Blood donations could help save the lives of accident victims, patients with severe anemia, people undergoing major surgery, or even newborns suffering from leukemia, thalassemia, hemophilia or dengue, he added.
SEWA teamed up with different volunteer groups and the Indian embassy to counsel expatriates during the nationalization campaign.
Saudi National Day, observed on Sept. 23, is significant because it marks the founding of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
