The Louvre Abu Dhabi will showcase 10,000 years of luxury through fashion, art and jewelry from Oct. 30 to Feb. 18. Here are some items that will be on display.
Inlaid bracelet
This inlaid bracelet was found at the necropolis of Yahmur in Syria during the third century. It features a gold-green fluorite stone and was displayed at Paris’s Musée du Louvre.Three medallion Mamluk carpet
This scarlet wool carpet was created in Cairo at some point between 1450 and 1500.Fragment of velvet
This fragment of velvet was found in Italy and dates back to the 15th century. The taffeta backed red velvet is intricately embroidered with silk and gold thread.Soup tureen
The piece, created in 1819, was a gift from French silversmith Jean Odiot to the French Chamber of Peers. It is made of brass silvered by Christofle.Madeleine Vionnet gown
This gown by French fashion designer Madeleine Vionnet was part of her Winter 1920 haute couture collection. It is an Ivory silk crêpe dress created out of four panels.Elie Saab gown
A gown by Lebanese designer Elie Saab will go on display. The off-the-shoulder dress with floral motifs is embroidered with sequins and hails from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2019 collection.
