This year has for sure been tough. Besides the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, racial injustice, and the Beirut explosion, we have unfortunately lost a number of Arab celebrities.

Shwikar
The veteran Egyptian actress died at the weekend aged 85. Shwikar and her husband, legendary comedian Fouad El-Mohandess, formed one of the most famous acting duos in the Arab world.

Sanaa Shafea
The Egyptian actor and academic died on Aug. 12 at the age of 77. Shafea took part in almost 30 films and played a number of roles in many television series, including “Omar bin Abdul Aziz” and “Haroun Al-Rasheed.”

Toni Mousa
Syrian actor Toni Mousa died, aged 66, on Aug. 9 from COVID-19 complications. He was among Syria’s hardest-working actors, whose career spanned 35 years.

Ragaa Al-Giddawy
In July, Egyptian actress Ragaa Al-Giddawy died at the age of 81 due to complications while undergoing treatment for COVID-19. Her career in showbusiness covered more than six decades.

Hassan Hosny
The renowned Egyptian comedian died in May at the age of 88 after suffering a heart attack. Hosny had more than 50 years’ experience in theater and film.

Nadia Lutfi
The veteran Egyptian actress died on Feb. 4, aged 83. She was most famous for her roles in “Al-Nadara Al-Sawdaa,” “Al-Khataya,” and “Abi Foq Al-Shagara.”
