‘Mission: Impossible 7’ trailer spotlights Abu Dhabi desert — and five other films shot in the Middle East

DUBAI: A new trailer for the latest ‘Mission: Impossible’ film shows lead star Tom Cruise riding through Abu Dhabi’s desert region, but the high-octane film isn't the only blockbuster to be shot in the Middle East.

  • ‘Mission: Impossible 7’

    The upcoming installment of the Tom Cruise-starring franchise was partly shot in Abu Dhabi, with the UAE capital’s desert region and the Louvre Abu Dhabi nabbing starring roles. A recently released trailer for the new film shows Cruise riding through the Liwa desert.

  • ‘Transformers’

    The 2009 film ‘Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen’ was partly shot in Egypt and Jordan, with the Pyramids of Giza stealing the spotlight in the action movie.

  • ‘Cherry’

    Starring Tom Holland, this drama centered on a US veteran was partly shot in Saudi Arabia’s AlUla.

  • ‘Aladdin’

    The 2019 live action adaptation of Disney classic “Aladdin” featured breathtaking desert scenes that were mostly shot in Wadi Rum, Jordan. 

  • ‘Star Was Episode IX’

    The cast of this Star Wars film also found themselves exploring the mighty dunes of Jordan’s Wadi Rum, which served as the fictional planet of Paasana in the film.

  • ‘Inception’

    Director Christopher Nolan’s mind-bending fan-favorite featured scenes shot in Morocco’s Tangier, where Leonardo DiCaprio’s character is chased through narrow streets and markets.
