RAMALLAH: Speaker of the Arab Parliament Mohammed Al-Yamahi has strongly condemned the dangerous escalation of violence carried out by terrorist settler militias, under the direct protection of the Israeli forces, against Palestinians and their property throughout the occupied West Bank.
In a recent press statement, Al-Yamahi said that this escalation has resulted in the killing and injury of several Palestinians, in addition to the burning of homes and property and attacks on Palestinian villages and towns, constituting a dangerous escalation that amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
He claimed that the organized terrorist attacks carried out by colonist militias in the West Bank, with the full support of the extremist occupying government, reveal a systematic policy aimed at terrorizing the Palestinian people, forcibly displacing them from their land, and imposing a colonial reality by force, in flagrant violation of international law, the Geneva Conventions, and resolutions of international legitimacy.
He added that the continued killings and extrajudicial assassinations, and the escalating attacks by colonists on unarmed civilians and their property, reflect the occupation’s determination to expand its aggression in the West Bank, in parallel with its crimes of genocide, starvation, and destruction in the Gaza Strip, in an attempt to impose new realities on the ground and undermine the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
The speaker called on the international community, the Security Council, the UN, and the International Criminal Court to take urgent action to provide protection for the Palestinian people, put an end to colonial terrorism, hold the Israeli leaders and settlers involved in these crimes accountable, impose deterrent sanctions on the occupation, and halt all forms of support that contribute to the continuation of its grave violations.
He called for the inclusion of colonist militias and armed terrorist organizations on national and international terrorism lists, considering them groups that practice organized terrorism against Palestinian civilians, and for a ban on dealing with settlements and the suspension of any privileges or agreements with the occupying government until it fully complies with the provisions of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.
He emphasized that Israel’s impunity had encouraged the escalation of its crimes, and called on the international community to take practical and binding measures to ensure a halt to the aggression, an end to the occupation, and the realization of the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent and sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The official spokesperson of Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Fouad Majali, affirmed Jordan’s absolute rejection of the settlers’ attacks, describing them as an extension of the extremist policies of the Israeli government and its illegal actions in the occupied West Bank, which fuel extremism and violence against the Palestinian people and undermine the prospects for achieving peace based on the two-state solution.
He held Israel responsible for the attacks and called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and to compel Israel to stop the attacks and to hold perpetrators of crimes accountable.
He said that the fulfilment of the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent and sovereign state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital, is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace that guarantees security and stability in the region.
The Palestinian presidency called on the US administration to intervene and compel Israel to halt crimes committed by Israeli settlers, warning that the continuation of the current situation would drag the entire region into dire consequences.
The presidency condemned the decisions taken by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the crime committed by Israeli forces in the village of Tall, including accelerating the establishment and legalization of colonial outposts, reinforcing military forces across the occupied West Bank, intensifying raids, and imposing a siege on Nablus and its surrounding areas.
