MANILA/SINGAPORE: Maynilad Water Services, the Philippine utility that supplies water and wastewater services in western Metro Manila and nearby Cavite province, is working with a state water agency to avert supply cuts during an El Nino dry spell, executives said on Tuesday.
Maynilad is discussing changes to raw water sharing with the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, or MWSS, the state body that oversees water and sewerage services in Metro Manila and surrounding areas, executives told an earnings briefing.
The company said supply cuts could begin if water at Angat Dam, its main source, falls below 150 meters. The dam stood at 156 meters after rising about 6 meters in a week.
Maynilad said it was better prepared than during the 2019 El Nino. It has added treatment plants, reservoirs and other water sources. It has also cut its reliance on Angat to 83 percent from 90 percent in 2019.
The company kept its full-year 2026 outlook unchanged. It said first-half results met expectations. It cited seasonal rains, a recent recovery in Angat’s water level and steady demand.
Maynilad had used 11.05 billion pesos ($180.75 million), or 43.9 percent, of the 25.1 billion pesos in net proceeds from its initial public offering as of June 30. It spent 6.65 billion pesos on water projects and 2.59 billion pesos on wastewater projects.
In a separate exchange filing, Maynilad reported a 14 percent rise in first-half net income.
