LuLu Hypermarkets’ Mango Mania, a festival of mangoes, opens at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday (May 19) 2016.
Abdul Bari Siddiqui, minister of finance of the Eastern Indian Bihar state, will inaugurate the event at Lulu Hypermarket Murabba in Riyadh. The food control department of the municipality supports the opening at LuLu Hypermarket Dammam.
“This edition of the LuLu Mango Mania Saudi has an abundant range of mangoes, sourced from across the continents,” LuLu stated.
The annual summer festival that celebrates mango as the king of fruits will continue till May 24, at all LuLu branches across the Kingdom.
The most popular varieties currently on display include alphonso, badami, rajapuri, thothapuri, sindhooram, chakkaragound, kalapady, malgova, mallika, moovandan, neelam, betti, karthakolomba, long mango, aadi, Bombay, kalbaathoor, samak, taymour, zill, green mango, berberi, gelind, selasation and Tommy Mango.
The selection has been sourced from Saudi Arabia, India, Kenya, Ivory Coast, Yemen, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brazil and Sri Lanka in recent times. These countries have seen a marked rise in the cultivation of mangoes making the local produce a preferred choice in the Saudi market.
LuLu management said in a statement: "This Mango Mania is a much awaited event in our calendar and the response has always been overwhelming. Our quest to source out the most exotic varieties started well in advance.”
The local producers need to be complimented on their concerted effort and have contributed substantially to make this event more success. The king of fruits has always remained a favorite all over the world and the onset of its season surely calls for a reason to celebrate,” a management representative added.
The festival offers various processed and packed mango products ranging from jams, pickles, pulps, chutneys and cakes, to widespread variety of different products.
