A poll conducted by Motorpoint, a car supermarket, which included 7500 British motorists, found out that the majority would like to see a smoking ban in cars.

A web-based survey by company found 71 percent of drivers want the British government to go much further than the current plans that will make it a criminal offense to smoke in cars where children are present.

Mark Carpenter, managing director of Motorpoint, said: “Our poll clearly shows that the bulk of motorists would like to see the government extend the scope of existing laws and see smoking ‘stubbed out’ completely in cars in this country.”

British MPs recently voted in favor of an amendment to the Children and Families Bill, which empowers, but does not compel, government ministers to bring in a ban in England where children are present in a vehicle. 

Similar bans on smoking already exist in some US states, including California, as well as in parts of Canada and Australia.
