NEW DELHI: Legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh charged only one rupee for his biopic “Bhaag Milkha bhaag.” The movie is directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra and has been in the news well before its first scene was shot.

“After my book was released, three-four directors approached me for making a movie. It was my son’s decision to make the movie for Rs 1. However, I mentioned a clause in the agreement that 10-15 percent of the profit which the movie makes will go to our trust,” said Milkha Singh at an event in New Delhi yesterday.

Milkha Singh said the decision to chose the director was taken by his son and golfer Jeev Milkha Singh, who was a fan of Rakesh Omprakash Mehra after watching the movie Rang De Basanti.

After attending the special screening arranged for him recently, Milkha Singh said he was was in tears and minced no words in lavishing praise on actor Farhan Akhtar and the director.

“Farhan Akhtar has done a brilliant job. He looked like my duplicate in the movie. The director, too, did a great a job. Also, the dialogues and the lyrics by Prasoon Joshi are brilliant. There was nothing which I felt should be changed in the movie, it was perfect,” said the former athlete.

Biopics, in the past, have played a major role in the awareness of the issue/sport among the youth of the country.
