LOS ANGELES: Comedian Chelsea Handler drew accusations of racism after she was invited to take over The Huffington Post’s Twitter account during Sunday night’s Oscars and repeatedly touted her upcoming book, “Uganda Be Kidding Me,” whenever “12 Years A Slave” received an award.

In one, she tweeted, “Congratulations #12yearsaslave Go to Africa or buy #ugandabekiddingme http://amzn.to/1de1ka9 #aheadofthecurve #Oscars.”

People responded via Twitter with words like “disgraceful,” “offensive” and “racist.”

Huffington Post senior executive director Perri Dorset said the site was upfront about the Twitter feed takeover and has invited celebrities to do so in the past, adding, “the views are theirs not ours.”

Handler also took a swipe at Kenyan supporting actress winner Lupita Nyong’o, tweeting, “#AngelinaJolie just filed adoption papers #lupitanyongo #Oscars -@chelseahandler.”

Handler’s publicist did not return messages seeking comment.

Earlier in 2013, Handler outraged Saudi women, when in her TV show “Chelsea Lately,” she swore at Saudi men for being able to receive notification by SMS of their wives’ travels abroad.

The 37-year-old American talk show host asserted that “they have this new policy in Saudi Arabia where if a woman leaves the country, the husband receives a text message,” before going on to use foul language to express her disdain.

She continued: “Talk about the worst marriage ever. You have to have a conversation every time you want to leave house? I don’t think so buddy; you’re lucky if I tell you where I’m going.”
